                Amish chests of drawers stack four to six drawers into a footprint about half the width of a dresser, so you get the same storage against a wall too short for anything wider. It is the piece for the corner beside the bed, the narrow wall behind a door, or the closet that ran out of room. Ours are built from solid hardwood, with drawers made to slide smoothly for decades.

                Start by deciding between a chest and a dresser. A dresser is wide and low, the better call when you have the wall for it and want a surface on top for a mirror or a lamp. A chest goes tall and narrow, which wins when floor space is tight or you want to tuck storage into a corner. Plenty of bedrooms use both, a dresser on the long wall and a chest beside the bed.

                Then the size. A small chest of four drawers suits a child's room or a guest room, while a tall five or six-drawer piece holds a full wardrobe on its own. Count what you need to store and we will size the chest and its drawers to it.

Solid wood drawer boxes on strong runners keep sliding smoothly where a stapled box would start to stick, and a tall chest built square stays stable rather than leaning as it ages. Ours are built to order by the Amish shops behind our Nolensville showroom, most arriving in 8 to 12 weeks, with Quick Ship options in 3 to 5.

                Because each is made for you, we match the chest to the bed and dressers you already have, down to the wood and the stain, so the room stays of a piece.
